التصميم بطلب من مبادرة حسن الجوار في الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت

More than 60 urban ashtrays have been installed around the campus perimeter as part of the Tobacco-Free Initiative, making AUB one of the largest non-smoking zones in Lebanon by the start of 2018.

In partnership with Recycle Lebanon, the initiative seeks to reduce not only the incidence of smoking on and around campus, but also the amount of cigarette-waste that makes its way into Lebanon's already strained ecology.

Instead, butts will be recycled into plastic pellets.

The novel design of the Butt Bollard reduces a traditionally 5-step process (unlocking, removing, emptying, replacing, and re-locking) to a single intuitive gesture free of all physical contact with waste and the container.

With a manoeuvre as familiar as turning a door-handle, the receptacle is emptied out into a bucket for collection and recycling.

The Butt Bollards are constructed and installed with materials common to the city, and as such integrate seamlessly into the urban furniture of Beirut.

The versatile design can be mounted on existing street poles, walls, or onto a custom free-standing floor mount.

تم تركيب هذه المنافض حول حرم الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت للتقليل من رمي النفايات  وبالتالي الحد من كمية أعقاب السجائر التي تجد طريقها إلى نظامنا البيئي وتساهم في تدميره. بالشراكة مع ريسايكل ليبانون، سيتم إعادة تدوير الأعقاب المجمعة إلى ألواح التجديف والتي بدورها سيتم استخدامها لتنظيف الشواطئ.

لإفراغ المحتويات، يختصرهذا التصميم العملية التقليدية المكونة من خمس خطوات (فتح وإزالة وإفراغ وإعادة وإقفال) إلى حركة واحدة مألوفة وسهلة دون أي ملامسة للنفايات أو المنفضة.
